		<description>My condolences on the passing of a longtime friend. ;-)  I&#039;ve used Mail from the get-go on OS X, and it&#039;s definitely matured a lot since version 1.0.  It&#039;s still got its quirks, no doubt, but I find it to be quite sufficient for my own purposes.

You can actually access messages that are being composed via the &quot;drafts mailbox&quot; property on the application object in Applescript.  Perhaps not the most obvious way to go about it, but it does the job.  The &quot;content&quot; property of the message can be used to get/set the text of the message.  The window thing is a no-go though, that is pretty dumb.

You also might want to check out MailTags, which is a Mail add-on that lets you tag and color your messages.  I haven&#039;t used it much myself, but it appears to even have Applescript support, and I&#039;ve heard lots of good things about it.
