NFL Week 1 Quick Pick

Dolphins @ Pittsburgh, pick
I assume this is a “pick” because Charlie Batch is starting for the Stillers. I have to go with that logic; the Steelers seem to need Big Ben to win (and wow, has he won). I mean, Charlie Batch?

  1. The hot pick for a lot of folks this year seems to be Miami. I think folks are sold with this Sabin character and the fact they won a bunch of garbage games at the end of the season last year. They’ll have to prove it to me first. I’ll take the Steelers with Batch.

  2. Score 1 for me! I’ll post my picks in this thread. We can either make this a big post, or you can cut and paste them into a new post with your picks for this week. Want to do them all on the blog?

  3. 1:00 Games
    Atlanta at Carolina (-5)
Carolina finally figured out the Falcons last year, but to hear Vick tell it, he, and some of the other stars, only half-assed it in that game. I don’t know about that, but I do know this: If Atlanta’s offensive coordinators can’t figure out how to overcome a 4-4 with a monster back, they shouldn’t show up. I’ll take the points.

    Baltimore at Tampa (-3)
Tampa has the league’s best defense (yeah, better than Chicago) and Baltimore’s offense looks better on paper, and in the pre-season, but we’ll see how for real they are. I’ll give the points.

    Buffalo at New England (-10)
Wow. You want me to give up 10 points this early in the season? Yeah, ok, fine. That being said, NE has a lot of holes on defense this year. “Lossman” won’t find them, but other teams will.

Cincinnati at KC (This is all over the place, I’m gonna call it -3)
Not sure what’s going on with this line. Is somebody important hurt? I’m pretty sure Carson Palmer will play, and based on how he looked in preseason, the Bengals are going to be really good. KC has the great running game, but they also have Herman Edwards. I never liked him, and I’m sorta looking forward to him whining to the press (is there any press in KC?) after he loses this game.

    Denver at St. Louis (+3.5)
The only thing I know about the Rams this year is that Matt Bulger is my backup fantasy QB. Denver, I think, has their last shot at doing something with Plummer. Give the points.

    New Orleans at Cleveland (-3)
Wow. No respect. They do realize that NO has a new QB and a hotshot rookie RB, right? And last I checked, Cleveland wasn’t beating anybody, much less a team that actually improved from last year. I’ll take the points.

New York Giants at Tennessee (-3)
Can you say “rebuilding?” They are in Memphis, and I’m not talking about the stadium. I wish Fisher and Young all the luck in the world. But I’m going to give these points. Tennessee favored here is a slap in the face to the NFC East champions.

    Philadelphia at Houston (+5.5)
Philly should be all healed up and Houston is looking for a new running back. Didn’t they draft…oh, yeah, that’s right. Nevermind. Give the points.

    Seattle at Detroit (+6)
Can Martz resurrect that offense? I don’t think they can improve enough to beat the class of the NFC. I’ll give the points.

    4:15 Games
    Chicago at Green Bay (+3.5)
I don’t really see how Green Bay is any better than they were last year. Favre is a year older and they lost their best receiver. They’re defense is still ass. Chicago seems like they should be better than GB on both sides of the ball. I’ll take the favorite again.

    Dallas at Jacksonville (Pick)
Dallas is a circus. It’s hard to win with all that foolishness going on. I like my guy Leftwich, and the Jacksonville D.

    San Francisco at Arizona (-7.5)
Ouch. I know nothing about San Francisco. Are they any better? Arizona looks like they’ve had some big upgrades. I’m not a big Dennis Green fan, but I’ll give the points here.

    Sunday Night
Indianapolis at New York Jets (+3)
Hello? Does anybody realize how bad the Jets are? Isn’t Indy still a favorite for the super bowl? They will crush them. It will be at least 14 points; I don’t care how slow Manning starts.

Monday Night (2 Games! Weird alert!)
    Minnesota at Washington (-4.5)
Minnesota had a rough season last year, but I actually kind of like what they’ve done this off-season. I don’t really like the moves Washington has made (although I’m rooting for Santana Moss). I like getting the points here quite a big.

    San Diego at Oakland (+3)
Wow, Oakland really sucks. Jeff George, eh? That move oughta be worth 7 points right there. Give the 3 easy.

  4. I’m an idiot. I screwed up the Jets/Giants games. I think we have to nix them since they’ve both happened, or are happening. I would have picked the Jets and the Colts, but that’s not fair either way.
